Remember that video games motivate us by making us feel competent, autonomous, and related. But watching gamers can do this too!
Watching someone play something new gives kids a sense of control; they know what to expect and how to prepare. Before you try a new recipe, you probably read through it first to know what to expect; same idea.
Knowing that a streamer is playing something you played, or struggling with something you thought was easy, gives players a sense of relatedness. They can relate to this player and feel less alone when facing a challenge.
When players then get to play on their own, they may have more confidence after watching a streamer. Because they know what to do they are more willing to take risks and maybe experiment with some new ideas. This is a great jumping off point for creativity.
