🌍 is the Instagram app the worst new feature on Instagram? It’s certainly not the safest!
👥 Instagram app is a new feature that lets you see more people you follow posted or tagged content in the world in the last 24 hours, both stories and grid posts. Paragraph if I’m a touring musician, or pop-up restaurant hosting an event, using this feature might make sense.
😬But now imagine I’m a teen posting photos of my friends and I out at a bar, and one of my friends’ jealous exes figures out that’s where we like to hang out
😩 imagine a parent influencer who chooses to post photos of their children, tagging places they frequent with those children
🚨 in general, I never want a technology company to have information about me that I would not willingly give a stranger, especially if that information may be viewed by strangers

Finally- it needs to be noted how any feature that allows someone to track, trace, or potentially stalk someone else will almost always disproportionately harm marginalized groups, particularly Black trans women, Black women, LGBT+ people, and those who use their platforms to speak out on important but controversial issues.
