Roblox just updated its parental control settings, and you can FINALLY block individual games.
If you ask me, Roblox is FINALLY approaching the “bare minimum” of parental control standards. But they still aren’t giving me (and many caregivers) what they really want: the ability to block access and VIEW of ALL games, except what you approve (like “approved content only”) on YouTube kids.
This has taken way too long, but I’m glad it’s here at all. If you want to block games on Roblox, FIRST you must have a “linked parent account” with your child’s Roblox account. Don’t know how? See my pinned instagram post (it’s grey).
To block a game, you’ll need to log in to YOUR linked parent account and you need to know the NAME of the game you want to block
Go to settings
Click on “parental controls”
Select “content restrictions” and then “blocked experiences”
Search for the game, then select “block”.
When your child logs into their account (as you can see in the second part of this video), they will still see the blocked games, but if they try to play them, they will be greyed out and “unavailable”.
Another new update: you can now see your child’s friends list on Roblox, and you can report or block any friends on the friends list. You’ll also now see the amount of time your child spent in individual games.
Other parental controls that have been available for the last few months: Setting daily time limits, and content setting limits.
I’m glad for this step forward, but still frustrated that Roblox and Epic games (Fortnite) have put all the onus on caregivers to block games, as opposed to allowing only approved content.
Will this make you more likely to let your kids play Roblox?
