Our favorite family board games of the year
None of which are technically board games.

With holidays coming up, life gets very hectic. But sometimes even 10-15 minutes of playing a game together helps our family calm down, connect, and enjoy our time as a family.
I love that this is also made by a small, indie company. It has been such a hit for our family. It seems so simple but every time we play it is fun and engaging in a whole new way, plus the creations we manage to build together seem to defy the laws of physics and look like amazing artistic creations! I mentioned Misfits last year after buying it and the creator reached out to tell me what an impact it made. You can purchase it here (affiliate link) They currently have only 250 copies available for US customers (plus a few for Canadian and UK/EU customers as well!) I have mentioned them many times before having an affiliate link so I promise this is a genuine endorsement :)
My grandmother taught me Kings in the Corner sitting at her kitchen counter, and playing it with WB makes me feel a connection to her. It’s a simple “solitaire” style game, but the simple addition of moving Kings into the corner positions and building off each other’s cards makes it fun and exciting.
Same goes for train or “chicken foot” style dominoes. Plus they’re incredible ways of building number sense and pattern familiarity.
And if you, like me, feel traumatized by Jenga, you need The Fuzzies in your life. No loud tumbling blocks, just endless fun and hand eye coordination.
What games do you like playing with your kids?

I remember playing the Kings in the corner solitaire game as a kid, we called it ‘clocks’ because of how we laid out the cards. This version looks like a fun one!
We found this game called “spot it” which we love. It’s a pack of round cards in the tin with different pictures. Between any two cards will be one picture that’s common. First person to “spot it” wins the card.
